School Video Surveillance Installation in London – St Bonaventure’s School Case Study

Overview

At Spectrum Fire & Security, we specialise in delivering reliable, future-proof Video Surveillance and security solutions for schools and educational environments across London. We were appointed by St Bonaventure’s School, a Roman Catholic boys’ secondary school in Forest Gate, East London, to design and install a modern Video Surveillance system that would enhance site security, safeguarding, and operational resilience.

The Challenge

The school’s existing Video Surveillance system was outdated, increasingly unreliable, and no longer fit for purpose. Equipment was obsolete and beginning to fail, the system lacked capacity for future expansion, and remote viewing depended on the school’s internal IT network, creating security and performance risks. The school required a robust, scalable Video Surveillance solution that complied with modern education sector security and safeguarding standards.

Our Solution

Following a comprehensive site survey, Spectrum designed a bespoke IP Video Surveillance system tailored to the needs of a busy secondary school environment. In partnership with TOA Electronics, we delivered a first-of-its-kind Video Surveillance solution within the education sector. The new system operates on a dedicated Video Surveillance network, completely separate from the school’s IT infrastructure, improving system stability, cybersecurity, and reliability.

The installation included over 100 high-definition IP Video Surveillance cameras covering internal areas and the external perimeter, all connected to a dedicated Network Video Recorder. This configuration ensures high-quality images, complete site coverage, and a scalable platform capable of growing with the school’s future security requirements.

Installation & Delivery

All works were scheduled during the summer holiday period to minimise disruption. Spectrum’s experienced engineers completed the installation, commissioning, and system handover within six weeks, ensuring the school was fully protected ahead of the new academic year.

Results

The upgraded Video Surveillance system has delivered a substantial improvement in overall school security, site visibility, and incident monitoring. The infrastructure supports effective safeguarding of pupils, staff, and visitors, while providing a reliable, future-proof Video Surveillance solution aligned with best practice in education security.

Ongoing Support

Spectrum Fire & Security continues to provide St Bonaventure’s School with comprehensive maintenance and support services, covering Video Surveillance, access control, and intruder alarms. This includes proactive system care and a 24-hour response service, ensuring long-term performance, reliability, and peace of mind.
